PHOENIX — From innovative digital capture systems to all-in-one camera/recorders to widescreen monitors and printers — Sony is showcasing HD technology that spans the surgical imaging spectrum at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) annual meeting. Visitors attending the conference will have the opportunity to experience the Sony HD Technology Bar. Seated counter-style at this hands-on exhibit, they can order up their own personalized experience of the newest Sony HD products. “The advanced performance and ease-of-use of Sony HD technology is best communicated by allowing doctors to experience it for themselves,” said Brian Zimmer, business manager for Sony’s Medical Division. “SAGES attendees can experiment with our advanced equipment and choose from our end-to-end HD technology to create their own HD projects on the spot. For example, doctors can create a sample PowerPoint presentation in just minutes with our ImageCore HD product, print it and take it with them.” Camera Systems The Sony booth will also feature the new PMW-10MD full HD (1920 x 1080) camera system, integrating high-quality HD video acquisition with digital recording. In a hospital setting, the unit’s compact size and remote camera-head enable easy and adjustable overhead mounting above the operating table as well as on surgical microscopes, with optional lenses and optical adapters. Displays Also on hand, Sony will be showing the new LMD-3250MD 32-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) widescreen LCD, with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution for medical applications. The monitor supports dual-modality display in both side-by-side and picture-in-picture configurations. Additionally, in multi-monitor installations, surgeons can take advantage of an innovative mirror image feature that inverts image display, if necessary, to create a field of view consistent with the doctor’s orientation to the patient. The device uses a 10-bit panel supporting both 1080i and 1080p images and 10-bit signal processing. Sony ChromaTRU color balance technology enables enhanced color accuracy and consistency across multiple monitors. Complementing this is the model GXD-L-52H1 LCD 52-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) HD LCD, which is an excellent choice for applications that demand large-scale, high-quality display for distance viewing. Printers At SAGES, attendees can create stunning, realistic prints in full HD resolution using the model UP-55MD/HD printer, a fast sublimation device with a slim form factor. The UP-55MD/HD outputs high-quality A5 prints with 16.7 million color gradations and a 16.9 widescreen aspect ratio in approximately 20 seconds. It can automatically store a copy of the printed image to a USB storage device for easy importing into medical reports and PowerPoint presentations. The UP-55MD/HD accepts and automatically detects 1080i and 720p HD as well as standard definition (SD) video signals. Rounding out the line up, Sony will be demonstrating the UP-DR80MD dye-sublimation printer for medical applications. Compatible with most popular image capture and camera systems, the printer delivers crisp 301 dpi, continuous tone output and easily combines images and text on letter-size media for comprehensive surgical reporting. The unit provides a more economical, yet high-end alternative to inkjet printers for many medical applications. “Together, Sony HD products help surgeons take advantage of the benefits of leading edge image quality throughout the entire surgical imaging continuum. With image quality, seeing is believing, and we encourage SAGES attendees to stop by and experience the power of Sony HD for themselves,” said Brian Zimmer, business manager for Sony Medical Division.
