2010 HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence Applications Now Being Accepted

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is now accepting applications for the 2010 HIMSS Davies Awards of Excellence. The awards program honors hospitals and health systems, independent physician practices, public health and community health organizations that have successfully achieved value from electronic health records (EHRs) to improve healthcare delivery.

"As healthcare organizations strive to implement and leverage the EHR to improve quality of care, the HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence program recognizes examples of demonstrated success in the use of health IT that include deriving value, lessons learned and exemplary stories to lead the industry," said David Collins, HIMSS director, healthcare information systems.

The application serves as a tool for an applicant to assess and document EHR progress based on four vital areas: management, functionality, technology and value. A committee of the applicants' peers -- many of whom are former Davies winners -- independently scores the applications. Those selected for a site visit will be recognized as finalists, with a final committee vote to select the 2010 winners. Winners will be invited to present at the 2011 Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla., and will be invited to serve on their respective Davies Award Committee.
