Patients Try 'Extreme Makeover' at New York's Premier Center for Plastic Surgery

02/03/2003

WOODBURY, N.Y. -- Women between the ages of 20 and 50 are signing up for real-life "extreme makeovers." This new service combines a mix of plastic surgeries with cosmetic dentistry, a professional image consultation, an exercise program with a personal trainer, and hair and make-up transformations -- all under the medical direction of Stephen T. Greenberg, MD, at NY's Premier Center for Plastic Surgery.

Patients from all economic and socio-backgrounds have individual reasons for wanting an extreme makeover. These patients represent a growing trend of women seeking both surgical and non-surgical makeovers under the guidance of a well-respected plastic surgeon. For instance, Erin, a 42-year-old mom in Suffolk County, will have four surgical procedures -- tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation and breast lift, plus cosmetic dentistry and a complete hair and make-up redo. Christie is a 24-year-old who will have a nose job, increase her breasts from a small size B to a full size C, whiten her teeth and get her hair and make up done over. "It's like one-stop shopping for your appearance," says Erin. Greenberg has affiliations with a cosmetic dentist, a well- known image consultant, high-end salon and spas and a personal trainer.

Real-life extreme makeovers are not the stuff of science fiction where an individual becomes unrecognizable to friends and family. The client's goal is to greatly enhance her appearance and improve her self-confidence. Commented a husband whose wife had an extreme makeover, "Did it make me feel different about her? Absolutely not. It made her feel different about herself."

Greenberg notes, "Nothing competes with the mental and physical excitement my patients achieve. People today live longer and, increasingly, seek to maintain an appearance that matches their self-image at every stage of life. A patient who has a strong personal desire for self-improvement and is able to identify specific, realistic goals is likely to be a suitable candidate for a mix of multiple surgical and non-surgical procedures."
