Francis DiPlacido, DMD, FACD, Elected President of AAAHC

05/16/2005

WILMETTE, Ill. -- During its April meeting, the board of directors of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) elected Francis P. DiPlacido, DMD, FACD, as president. DiPlacido, vice president of the AAAHC board since 2003, has also served as an active AAAHC surveyor since 1993.  His contributions over the years have extended to serving on a variety of AAAHC task forces and committees, including the Accreditation Committee and the Standards and Survey Procedures Committee.

A fellow of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American and International Colleges of Dentistry, and the National Academies of Practice, DiPlacido earned his bachelor’s of science degree from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.  He received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine. DiPlacido completed his graduate studies with a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Medicine. Currently, DiPlacido works in private practice as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Fort Myers, Fla.

"I consider the presidency of the AAAHC a tremendous honor, and an opportunity for me to play an even larger role in helping the AAAHC promote patient safety and quality care throughout the ambulatory care industry.  The number of organizations seeking accreditation through the AAAHC is increasing steadily, and I anticipate that this trend will continue and even accelerate as more organizations recognize the benefits of accreditation," said DiPlacido.

DiPlacido's commitment to his profession extends beyond his contributions to the AAAHC. He has served as the president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and has acted as a councilor and member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a life member of the American Dental Society. Contributing to patient care beyond the United States, DiPlacido, along with his wife, Noreen (an RN and AAAHC surveyor) find time to make annual two-week mission trips to Honduras with CURE International to provide oral and maxillofacial surgery services.
