Troyen Brennan, MD, JD, MPH, Joins AAAHC Institute’s Board of Directors

SKOKIE, Ill. -- The AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement (AAAHC Institute), a not-for profit subsidiary of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), announces the appointment of Troyen A. Brennan, MD, JD, MPH, to its board of directors. The AAAHC Institute provides opportunities for ambulatory health care organizations and others to learn about and participate in clinical performance measurement and improvement.

Brennan is senior vice president and chief medical officer of Aetna Inc., responsible for directing Aetna’s National Quality Management and Clinical Policy units as well as the company’s clinical operations, including disease management programs and patient management services. Prior to joining Aetna, Brennan was president and CEO of Brigham and Women’s Physician’s Organization, and director of quality measurement and improvement at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Brennan practiced as an internist until 2006. He has been faculty member at HarvardMedicalSchool since 1995 and at Harvard School of Public Health since 1992. Having earned his medical and master’s of public health degrees from Yale Medical School, his law degree from Yale Law School, and a master’s of arts degree from Oxford University, Brennan has published four books and more than 200 peer-reviewed papers. He is a frequent speaker on topics that include health care policy, medicine and law, ethics and quality of care.
