SKOKIE, Ill. — The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) has been granted renewal of its Medicare deemed status for ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) through 2012 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The AAAHC has held deemed status for ASCs since 1996. ASCs accredited after undergoing the AAAHC/Medicare Deemed Status survey demonstrate to CMS that their standards meet or exceed those mandated for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs. In response to recent changes in CMS requirements, the AAAHC revised some of its accreditation polices and standards. These changes immediately affect ASCs seeking to be included in, or that are presently included in, the AAAHC/Medicare Deemed Status program. For an explanation of changes, click here. The AAAHC, founded in 1979, is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with nearly 4,000 organizations accredited nationwide. The AAAHC accredits a variety of ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, endoscopy centers, college student health centers, and large medical and dental practices. The Accreditation Association serves as an advocate for the provision of high quality health care through the development of nationally recognized standards and through its survey and accreditation programs. AAAHC accreditation is recognized as a symbol of quality by third-party payers, medical organizations, liability insurance companies, state and federal agencies and the public.
