Waterbury, CT --- Amkai was recently featured in a prestigious research report that named six electronic medical record (EMR) software systems as having strong user interface, design and usability features. The report, published by the Parsons Institute for Information Mapping (PIIM), a research, development and services arm of the New School in New York, selected these systems after reviewing some fifty commercially available solutions. The criteria used included “Does the system support standard EMR features in a unique or more thoughtful manner than its peers?” Amkai was the only one of the six vendors whose software is specifically designed for the outpatient surgery environment.
PIIM conducted the study at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense to provide input on potential improvements to the Department’s Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), an internally developed EMR system for the military. PIIM was asked to assess commercial systems to gain insight into improving the design and functionality of AHLTA. The study analyzed Amkai’s integrated suite that includes AmkaiOffice™, an administrative management solution, and AmkaiCharts™, an electronic medical record application. Citing many elements of the system’s feature set, user interface, and design architecture, one of PIIM”s key positive conclusions was that ”Amkai software are very simple and straightforward systems without complicated hierarchy. They are highly usable as well as user friendly.”
“Given that user adoption is a paramount concern in healthcare’s drive to realize the many benefits of electronic health record software, we are pleased about this independent recognition of Amkai’s investment in design for usability,” said Joe Macies, chief executive officer of Amkai. “We are also honored to be the only surgery-oriented supplier selected alongside five major national EMR firms.”
