Medical Assistants Week Planned for October

09/05/2008

CHICAGO — Medical assistants are the unsung heros of healthcare, but will get a little time in the spotlight during Medical Assistants Recognition Week, which will be held Oct. 20 to 24, 2008.

Every year, Medical Assistants Recognition Week (MARWeek) is celebrated during the third full week in October. Medical Assistants Recognition Day will be Oct. 22, 2008.

Thousands of medical assistants are expected to take part and host Medical Assistant at the Heart of Health Care recognition and pride events. The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) will also take part in the celebration by offering free promotional materials on their Web site.

Medical assistants perform a wide range of duties including using computer applications, answering phones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient medical records, coding and filling out insurance forms, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services, and handling correspondence, according to the AAMA.

For more information, visit the AAMA Web site here or call the AAMA at (800) 228-2262.
