Manhattan’s Physician Group Gains AAAASF Accreditation

NEW YORK — Manhattan’s Physician Group in New York has demonstrated its commitment to patient safety by gaining accreditation from The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), recognized nationally as the “Gold Standard” in accreditation.

Steven Finkelstein, MD, leader of MPG’s gastroenterology department, was instrumental in managing the accreditation process for Manhattan’s Physician Group Upper East Side Endoscopy Center. “This was truly a team effort from everyone at the 95th Street office,” said Finkelstein. He went on to note, “This accreditation demonstrates to our patients and the public our commitment to patient healthcare and safety.”

With colorectal cancer the second leading cause of cancer death in New York City, it’s no small wonder that more and more medical institutions are responding accordingly by investing in their facilities. More individuals are aware of the need to have a colonoscopy. The need to meet this increased demand led Manhattan's Physician Group to expand its services by creating an endoscopy Suite at its Upper East Side location in New York, and then pursue accreditation.

To earn its accreditation, Manhattan’s Physician Group, like every AAAASF accredited ambulatory surgery facility, must meet stringent national standards for general environment, general safety, blood and medication, medical records, quality assessment/improvement, personnel, governance, operating room, recovery room and anesthesia. The end result is that the accredited facility makes a commitment toward maintaining safety and quality in the ambulatory surgery facility. As the leading accrediting organization for ambulatory facilities, AAAASF has developed the systems to effectively monitor and implement the latest advances in outpatient care delivery that directly benefit patients.
