CHICAGO -- Capable of meeting the clinical requirements of the most demanding diagnostic imaging centers, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS) today announced that the Ultimax, the company's multi-purpose X-ray system, has been installed at the Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Center (SDMI) in Las Vegas. SDMI is nationally recognized and Nevada's largest and busiest diagnostic imaging center offering advanced imaging capabilities traditionally found only in hospitals and major medical centers.

"Toshiba's Ultimax represents over eight decades of X-ray system development experience, and it continues to prove its value with its versatility, reliability and clinical capabilities," said Don Volz, director of the X-ray Business Unit at Toshiba. "With this installation at SDMI, the Ultimax will enable physicians to offer a wide range of imaging services with the ease-of-use and clinical versatility that will help provide patient-focused care."

"At SDMI, we are impressed with the overall image quality, ease-of-use and versatility of the Ultimax system," said Jody Cearlock, MD, interventional radiologist at the Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging Center. "The Ultimax is truly an all-purpose system, capable of handling our extreme patient load, as well as imaging requirements for arteriograms, biopsies, myelograms and numerous other diagnostic and interventional procedures."

The Ultimax is an all-digital, multi-purpose X-ray system that performs diagnostic R/F, non-vascular interventional and general angiographic procedures. The system also features innovative technology that enhances imaging capabilities and maximizes productivity through rapid positioning capabilities and multitasking operations. Advanced technologies featured on the Ultimax include:

-- Flexible tabletop design with a low table-mounting position -- allowing easy patient access, even for patients in wheelchairs.

-- Exceptional longitudinal C-arm movement for rapid positioning and expanded coverage, from head to toe.

-- Full range of dose-management features, including unique Tantalum (Ta) filters and GRID pulse fluoro that help ensure the minimum required dose while maintaining a high image quality.

-- Advanced image intensifier and sophisticated CCD camera to better visualize anatomic details.

-- EPS-Plus, all-digital acquisition, processing and storage system providing true multitasking capabilities for faster exams and higher patient throughput.
