In reaction to last year’s hepatitis C outbreak in Las Vegas, Nevada lawmakers have proposed similar bills in the state Senate and Assembly to bring ambulatory surgery centers under a little more scrutiny in the name of patient safety.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Assembly Bill 123 and Senate Bill 70 would require annual inspections of ambulatory surgery centers and certain physician offices where conscious, general and deep levels of sedation are used. The bill would also require ASCs to also obtain permits to provide sedation.
