The N.J Senate will vote on a patient safety bill, which would require ambulatory surgery centers to track infection rates and report them to the puiblic. The vote should be finalized on Monday, according the a report in NorthJersey.com.
The report states, "More than 40 percent of surgeries occur in free-standing facilities, yet only one-third of New Jersey's 200-plus ambulatory surgery centers are licensed by the state.
The bill would provide needed data on quality and cost in this growing industry, said state Sen. Robert Gordon, D-Fair Lawn. He sponsored the legislation after reading stories in The Record detailing gaps in regulation and how some centers charged several times what hospitals were paid."
